Medium-rare beef patty, with warm blue cheese oozing out of every bite.. Topped with nutty arugula and paired with walnut butter and sweet poached pears on the bottom bun.. OMGGG can't stop thinking about you

Ive been thinking of a way to say thank you for making Battle Studies such a huge success out of the gate. Ive also been thinking of a way to use tumblr as a means of posting some more substantial stuff. So heres a very raw, live solo version of Edge of Desire I just recorded in my apartment as a way to show my gratitude to you all for extending my time in this amazing career youve helped me build.

I think if you were kind enough to spent the 13 bucks, you should get some free music for the next good while.

So here it is. A song about late night longing recorded at 3am. iPhone dinging in the background and all(thats how I knew the take was going to be worth sticking with, as the best takes always get interrupted.)

Thank you.

More to come
John

(Feeling like and disgusted with myself for being such a product of this meritocratic, utilitarian society.)

It's been a while since I took out this powerful little book to read on the way to school. :)

Chapter 33, The Imitation of Christ

The Inconstancy of Our Heart, and of Directing Our Final Intention to God

Christ - Son, trust not your affection of the moment, for it will soon be changed into another. As long as you live, you are subject to change, even against your own will; so that sometimes you are joyful, at other times sad; now at peace, then troubled; at one time devout, at another arid; sometimes fervent, at other times lazy; one day heavy, another day elated.

But he who is wise and well instructed in spirit, is above all these changes, not minding what he feels in himself, nor on what side the wind of instability blows, but that the whole inclination of his soul may be directed toward the desired end. For thus he may remain one and the self-same, and unshaken, by unceasingly directing, through all this change of events, the single eye of his intention towards me.

And the purer the eye of your intention is, with so much the greater constancy will you pass through these different storms. But in many the eye of pure intention is dark; for men soon look towards something delightful as it comes their way. And rarely will you find one entirely free from all stain of self-seeking. So the Jews, at one time, came in to Bethania, to Martha and Mary, "not for Jesus only, but that they might see Lazarus also" (Jn 12:9).

Trust not to your feeling; whatever it may be now it will be quickly changed into another.
