my super sweet daddy watched american idol with me, and kept calling me to go to the room to see if he could fix the wireless for me today. he told my mum that he did so because she advised him to spend more time with me, given the very limited hours i spend at home. :D so sweet.. :D

ahh. just went for lunchtime mass, and had a fantastic two hour long chat-debate over lunch with james, angela, jem, justin, ben and davin. gosh it was really very interesting to see what i learnt in philo last semester put into the catholic context.. and HAH jem you've been pulled into the philo circle :DD grid lines vs concentric circles. so, should we take a consequentialist view regarding any situation, or stick to the hard facts and the acts in themselves? just like a deontic would do? is rigidity the way to go? based on that conversation itself, it seems like the Church's teachings on abortion and euthanasia are adhering to the 'grid lines' argument.. which i had considered to be cold and uncompassionate at the time when i was writing my philosophy essay.
yet everything appears to boil down to the intention behind the action. one of the hypothetical situations which we were talking about includes shooting an aggressor to save another person. is that considered a sin? are you considered to have commited a crime? the two are very different, apparently. what if you're driving along innocently, and someone suddenly jumps in front of your car, wanting to kill herself? how different would things be if you had been drinking before you drove, or if you were fiddling with your radio at the point of collision? very thought-provoking indeed.
somehow we moved on from that into a discussion about euthanasia. i found out that all you need to provide is nutrition, oxygen and hydration! that means that if a person was surviving with an artificial heart or something along those lines, and you decide to take away that unnecessary life support, it wouldn't be considered euthanasia at all! on the other hand, if the person were living a meaningless life as a vegetable, taking away the life support is a no-no. HMMM. totally not consequentialist, really..
and one last one. if a mother were pregnant, and knew that her child was going to die, and that she would die too if she didn't abort the child, would refusing to abort it be considered as suicide? once again, it is subjective. if she refused because she was waiting for a miracle, then it most definitely wouldn't be suicide. however, if she decides to use that as an excuse to end her life, then yes, she would suffer the repercussions of her decision when judgement day arrives.
just when i thought that i wasn't really being tested!

haha i had quite an awesome day :DD
i started off this morning trying to finish the last 3 and a half chapters from my textbook in preparation for the sw2104 test :D ohh my bed is so comfy.. and i guess it's good in a way that mer wasn't home, or i would have woken her up. plus i had the freedom to use the entire bed to study :D the test turned out pretty alright, especially given the amount of time invested! :DD
after that, i went to YIH and surprisingly von turned up too :DD hahaha. after a short power nap, we had lunch and spent lots of time together! :D we sat drinking teh (and teh bing :D) like aunties and gazed out towards the horizon, and talked about lots of stuff. :D and YAY to von's first day visiting my blog. ;DD
we decided we couldn't get enough of each other, and i ended up crashing her real estate lecture. hahaha. (it was so fun entertaining u, von! :D i ended up entertaining myself too. hahaha.) and so, within those few hours, von learnt a lot about me, and the fact that von's not really as mysterious as i used to think she was was reinforced. :DD love love, bonk bonk! :D
