aha what a relaxing saturday i've had! after ytd, i'm stress-free!
hahaha. now for a boring recount of what my day's been like. slept for almost 11 hours, watched some hk drama for a couple of hours, ate and ate, played my piano, completed some little tasks that i've been putting on hold, listened to music with a set of headphones that i found somewhere in my house today, read 'the under cover economist', watched man u play everton (unfortunately they didn't win :( ), spent some time with my family (^^) and went gaga over the bittersweet chinese tea again.

(unfortunately, too much relaxation can make me restless!)

some interesting excerpts from the 11-page free-rider problem article that i read. that you can access too at this site :DD

When the number of members of a group that would benefit from collective action is small enough, we might expect cooperation that results from extensive interaction, mutual monitoring, and even commitments to each other that trump or block narrowly self-interested actions. But when the group is very large, free-riding is often clearly in the interest of most and perhaps all members.

In large societies, democracy is invariably representative democracy except on issues that are put to direct popular vote in referendums. Even this term, “representative,” is gutted by logical fallacy. My representative on some governmental body is apt to work on behalf of my interests some of the time and against them some of the time. Even those for whom I vote often work against my interests; and if they should be said to represent me, they often do a very bad job of it.

there's a bug in my room (i think it's a giant ant. the flying breed.) crawling all over miss scarlet and me and my cup. i tried to kill it but decided not to after smacking it with my foolscap pad a few times. now it's still crawling over me and genius' wire, giving me the most intimate company as i finish my social work report.

having an absolutely enjoyable wednesday :D

decided to skip social work lecture and go for make-up on friday (which coincides w make-up for econs so i'm gonna have to watch the webcast for that :D). staying at home until 5 to do my social work report.. loving the weather and the good food that my dear mummy is stuffing me w hahaha. currently doing my report in her company and she just handed me her little prayer book and told me to read this:

Chapter 109:
Controlling One's Own Opinion

Christ:
My child, everybody likes to follow his own way of thinking. Every man prefers to associate with those who agree with his ideas. Yet, it is so foolish for you to think too highly of your own opinion.

2. Nobody knows all the answers. The man who is always talking does not advance much in knowledge. A good listener will always learn more than the one who talks too much.

3. It is not always necessary to point out the mistakes of others. Even when you know better, you need not always express your opinion. In fact, many discussions are unnecessary and unimportant. So often, too, opinions depend on people's likes and dislikes. Why argue when it is not an important matter?

4. To those who know how to control their tongues for My sake, I grant the grace of interior peace.

5. Do not love your opinions too much. Be humble enough to seek advice when you need it. Do not try to be independent of all other opinions. Different opinions may bring you a broader understanding of yourself as well as of others.

THINK:
At times I must hold my tongue for the sake of peace. Many unimportant things are said and done in daily life. It is my pride that makes me want to correct people at the slightest opportunity. Corrections are unnecessary in many things. I should not place too much confidence in my own sentiments and opinions. In small, unimportant matters I do no harm by keeping silent and listening to opinions which do not agree with mine. It takes a deep humility and a delicate charity to act in this way.

PRAY:
O Jesus, King of truth, help me to preserve peace and harmony among those around me. Teach me to work and labour for what is right. Let me never listen in silence to what is contrary to Your teachings, or hurtful to my neighbour or my own soul. Yet, show me how to be considerate of ther people's feelings and opinions as far as it can be done without compromising Your truth. Grant me the humility to follow advice when necessary. Let me love Your truth more than my own opinions. Amen.

wonderful excerpt from "my daily bread". i'm gonna have to live this out. thanks to my sweet mummy ^^

the GEK1508 - Einstein's universe and quantum weirdness - forum is the most happening of all forums and it's so exciting to read the posts! haha! <3

hmm. feeling disappointed with the most important aspect of myself and i resolve to do something about it. right now! questioning the genuinity of my efforts. pure motives? quite impossible.

i should stop using the word random so often. haha.

everything happens for a reason VS coincidences, random behaviour

everyone of us could have done it a little better VS you've done your best, don't be so hard on yourself

i love you cos you're submissive and obedient VS you're boring and unassertive

haha. just pick the suitable option for the situation at hand.

there are thin lines separating many pairs - love and hate; standing out from the crowd and rebellion for the sake of itself; ignorance and stupidity; self-assurance and arrogance; geometry and force (HAHA it's Einstein getting to me); and possibly most important of all, right and wrong (and that's philo speaking. concentric circles and grid lines.) how do we live our lives like that? there are so many grey areas to deal with.
