sigh. its 115 in the morning and i can't sleep..

was pondering about how odd/interesting it is that our human lives are governed by relativity. haha.. how we find contentment based on comparison with external factors rather than appreciating the thing in question instead! how do i put it?

hmm.. a contestant on deal or no deal will only feel that her deal was good if she it were more than the amount she would have gotten if she had stuck through to the end.. but the absolute figure: 23000, would be enough to make anyone at home drool (at least i think so) hee. why?? and yet, i think anyone in her position would have reacted the same way. should have, would have, could have. the basis of regret in our life..

on a more scientific front, this experiment which i read about in primary 3 and that has imprinted itself (i don't know why) in my memory for the past 9 years also operates by a similar logic. if you put your right hand in a tub of warm/mildly hot water and your left in a tub of cold water, and then proceed to place both hands in lukewarm water, you'd find that the left hand feels warmer than the right..! but why?! shouldn't they feel the same?? it's amazing.. to me at least!!

braces feel uncomfortable initially because we know how it feels like to eat and live without them. haha. but once we forget that feeling, it becomes a norm.. conversely, one would feel uneasy when they're taken off.. that is, until they adapt to braces-less teeth once more.. hee. how scary. does this mean that if we're surrounded by evil people, we would become desensitized eventually? until our yardstick is adjusted to suit constant wrongdoing, unaware that we are being led astray..? what a very, very scary thought..

don't know if it is a farfetched analogy, but likewise, i come to appreciate those who are by my side increasingly as i meet more and more new people.. it just makes me think those who are close to me are so wonderful and that i can't live without them.. makes me take comfort in the fact that there are still good people in the world.. haha.. i love my family and friends ^^ lucky lucky me!!!
